Marine ARM GPCI Investigations of Clouds (MAGIC): Measuring the Composition of Aerosol Particles

The role of aerosols on cloud activation and hygroscopic properties is strongly affected by mixing state of aerosol particles. Thus the measurements of aerosol chemical composition are critically important for better understanding of the processes affecting cloud formation and lifetime. The goal of this work was to measure chemical composition of aerosol particles of different origins during the second MAGIC’s Intensive Observation Period (IOP) in July 2013. The working hypothesis is that marine aerosol composition and cloud radiative properties are closely coupled.
