Ganges Valley Aerosol Experiment (GVAX)

NOTE: As of April 1, 2011, the AAF will no longer be participating in this field campaign. The year long deployment of AMF to Nainital will be marked two intensive operating periods. The pre-monsoon period extending from April 15 to June 15 of 2011 will include support from a twin-otter aircraft operated by Indian Institute of Science/Indian Space Research Organization besides support from additional ground sites. A winter intensive period is also proposed extending from December 15, 2011 to February 15, 2012. During this phase of the deployment we expect to have the DOE G-1 aircraft to be available for operations in India and most likely stationed at Pantanagar airport. The G 1 aircraft will probe both the PBL and over the AMF and above into the mid troposphere to characterize the chemical composition of aerosols and their physical and optical properties within clouds and outside.
