SPARTAN and IMPROVE Comparison Experiment

3 November 2024 - 31 December 2025

Lead Scientist: Sandra Marcela Loria Salazar

Observatory: SGP (Southern Great Plains)

The operation of the SPARTAN international network is centered around field-deployable "pods" that include a Cimel sunphotometer, a size-scanning nephelometer, and a filter-sampler for speciated aerosol measurements of PM2.5 and PM10.

We propose to establish:

1) the comparability of the Air Photon IN-102 size-scanning nephelometer with the ARM Aerosol Observing System (AOS)’s TSI nephelometer.

and

2) the comparability of the SPARTAN filter-station of chemically speciated aerosol measurements with the fixed-site IMPROVE filter measurements already deployed at the Southern Great Plains (SGP) atmospheric observatory.

The SPARTAN station measurements will be directly compared to the ARM AOS nephelometer measurements and the ARM SGP IMPROVE station filter measurements to determine comparability.
