SOLMIRUS

Solmirus' All Sky Infrared Visible Analyzer (ASIVA)

16 May 2009 - 17 July 2009

Lead Scientist: Dimitri Klebe

Observatory: SGP

Solmirus’ All Sky Infrared Visible Analyzer (ASIVA) primary function was to provide radiometrically-calibrated imagery in the mid-infrared (IR) atmospheric window. For this field campaign, the ASIVA instrument featured a wide-angle (106deg x 156deg) FOV lens providing good overlap with the TSI instrument in determining cloud fraction. The ASIVA instrument also contained a filter wheel featuring a custom 10.2-12.2 micron filter providing ultimate contrast between clouds and clear sky. An additional filter (centered near 8.5 microns) was used to determine color temperature from which cloud height could be determined. Data products included radiometrically-calibrated images taken at 1-5 minute intervals, cloud masks computed by a variety of techniques, and cloud fraction determination using these data analysis techniques. A final report was issued detailing the results of this field campaign with special emphasis on comparison with data from the TSI instrument.
