Management Structure and Responsibilities

Based on daily weather forecasts, an operations decision will be determined for what experiments will be conducted, what aircraft will fly, and what flight patterns will be flown. There are two forecasts per day, one in the morning of a planned operations day to determine the go/no go decision of that day’s activities. Another forecast will be made in early afternoon before 3 PM to plan for the next day’s activities.

The IOP Mission Planning Committee, which is comprised of the IOP Chief Scientists, has the responsibility to, based on the forecast, status of aircraft and instruments, decide each day’s experiments to be conducted. The committee will meet twice per day after the forecasts at a time and place yet to be determined.

The Co-Chairs of the IOP Mission Planning Committee are the Integrated IOP Coordinator and the Integrated IOP Aircraft Coordinator. The Integrated IOP Aircraft Coordinator will have final approval of aircraft activities. The Integrated IOP Coordinator will have final approval of all surface-based platforms and instrument activities or associated data rate determinations.

There will be daily General Science Meeting at a time and place to be determined for individual IOP principal investigators and research participants members to meet. Each participant will have an opportunity to report on the status of their instrument and summary of preliminary findings. The location and time of the meeting will be determined by the Integrated IOP Coordinator.

There will be a daily meeting for Individual IOP participants at a time and location to be determined by the individual IOP Chief Scientist. Each participant will have an opportunity to report on the status of their instrument and summary of preliminary findings.

The SGP CART Site Manager has the responsibility for the operation of all CART instruments and will interface with the Integrated IOP Coordinator on operational issues involving CART instruments.

The SGP CART Site Safety Officer is responsible for the safe operation of all on-site facilities and IOP participants at all SGP CART Site facility locations.

The Forecaster will have the responsibility for providing forecasts at the weather briefing meetings.

Daily Briefings/Coordination Meetings:

  • Weather briefings will be given at a time and location to be determined.
  • The IOP Mission Planning Committee will meet at a time and location to be determined.
  • The General Science Meeting will take place at a time and location to be determined.
  • Individual IOP meetings will take place at a time and location to be determined by the individual IOP Chief Scientist.
