Carbonaceous Aerosol and Radiative Effects Study (CARES): SMPS & CCN counter deployment during CARES/Cal-NEx

4 May 2010 - 2 July 2010

Lead Scientist: Jian Wang

Observatory: OSC

CARES/Cal-NEx offered a unique opportunity to examine the CCN activity of representative organic aerosols within the boundary layer. By combining a SMPS and a dual column CCN counter, the size-resolved CCN concentrations were measured. This allowed the characterization of the cloud activation properties of major organic aerosols. The AAF SMPS and MAOS dual column CCN counter were operated in series to characterize size-resolve CCN concentrations. The two instruments were deployed at Los Angeles ground site from May 10 to June 7, 2010, and at the T1 site at Cool, CA from June 8 to June 30th, 2010.
