TRACER Aerosol Properties

1 October 2023 - 30 September 2024

Lead Scientist: Rajan Chakrabarty

Observatory: AMF (ARM Mobile Facility 1)

This project will provide the vertical distribution of physico-chemical properties of individual atmospheric particles collected by ARM’s tethered balloon system (TBS) as part of the TRACER campaign. We will conduct systematic chemical imaging (CI) studies of composition and physical properties of airborne particles toward (1) investigating the contribution of natural and anthropogenic sources to aerosol population during representative meteorological conditions, and (2) characterizing particle propensities to act as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). Our CI measurements will be systematically examined and correlated with the online field records of particle hygroscopicity and CCN properties, therefore providing critical feedback for further development and evaluation of the particle-resolved atmospheric models.
