North Slope of Alaska Priorities Workshop Report Available
Published: 2 July 2015
With its rapidly changing environment, the Arctic is an exciting place for climate research, and scientists have an important resource in the North Slope of Alaska (NSA) facilities of the ARM Climate Research Facility. The ARM Facility is being reconfigured to provide more in-depth observations at fewer sites; the NSA Priorities Workshop was held in September 2014 for the research community to provide input to the reconfiguration.
Hosted by the Earth and Environmental Systems Sciences Division (EESSD) within the Office of Biological and Environmental Research (BER) of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the workshop brought researchers representing a broad range of interests together to provide feedback on what they wanted to see in the NSA region. Top priorities included starting weather balloon and unmanned aerial system operations, relocating and expanding existing equipment, regularly deploying manned aircraft missions, and developing stronger research collaborations.
The report from the workshop is now available on the Office of Science BER website.
The ARM Climate Research Facility is a DOE Office of Science user facility. The ARM Facility is operated by nine DOE national laboratories, including .
