Doppler Lidar Profiles
Guest
ARM currently operates several scanning coherent Doppler lidar systems at various sites around the globe. These instruments operate in the near infrared (1.5 microns) and provide measurements of radial velocity, attenuated aerosol backscatter, and signal-to-noise ratio. Systems are typically operated using a fixed scan schedule consisting of plan-position-indicator scans that are performed several times per hour and vertically pointing during other times. The Doppler lidar value-added products calculate profiles of horizontal winds (DLWIND) and vertical velocity statistics (DLWSTATS) from these scans. Both value-added products provide measurements in clear air below the lowest cloud base.
