NOX-AIR

SCILLA nitrogen oxides (NOx) airborne data

PI

Purpose

Nitrogen oxides mixing ratios in ppb are measured using a Teledyne API Model T200UP.  The analyzer uses chemiluminescence to determine NO concentration.  Alternating measurement of the concentrations of total NOx (NO + NO2) and just NO are made by directing the sample through a blue light converter that photolyzes NO2 to NO and bypassing it, respectively, with the NO2 concentration calculated as the difference between the two.  Sampled air was pulled from above the Naval Postgraduate School’s (NPS) Twin Otter aircraft through a rear-facing, ¼” OD PFA Teflon tube. The sample stream was split between several other gas analyzers (CO, O3, and H2O) and an oxidation flow reactor. The NO, NO2, and NOx mixing ratios were recorded once per minute.
