The Ka-band ARM zenith radar (KAZR) Ship Correction (KAZRSHIPCOR) VAP is intended to correct the effect of ship motion on the radar measurements, which are intended to be vertically pointing. KAZRSHIPCOR is provided as an evaluation product for the MAGIC and ACAPEX campaigns.
Reflectivity, spectral width, and signal to noise ratio are corrected to account for the pitch and roll of the ship. Mean Doppler velocity is corrected for pitch and roll, and additionally corrected to reduce the impact of the horizontal wind component and ship heave velocity. The KAZRSHIPCOR data stream provides ancillary QC for each corrected variable. The AQC indicates that a correction was not made. If no correction was possible, due to a lack of ship attitude data, the variable defaults to its uncorrected value.
